Growing from an enjoyment of taking sports photos for yearbook, Britain Givens, rising senior at Southport High School, never found someone high quality to take his sports pictures, so instead he became that person. He decided to create his own way, through a website, to share with athletes their pictures.
“I had to take pictures for a yearbook event, because they didn’t have a photographer.” Givens said. “So, I went and took pictures and I sent them out to a few of the players and they thought they were good photos and asked me to come to more games for pictures.” That’s when Givens started up a website (picvudu) to give access to the athletes for them to purchase and browse through.
Givens doesn’t just see this as an opportunity for a quick way to make money, he sees it as meaningful to both him and the player.
“It’s just fun being able to create something so special to somebody that’s just so simple.” Givens said. “I always wanted pictures of me playing my sport and could never find anybody high quality, so me being able to be that guy who is able to get those high quality pictures feels real good.”
With yearbook giving him this opportunity to be able to pursue a new interest, it has opened gateways into new experiences and a new perspective. Givens now hopes to pursue sports photography in college.
