Great Person, Great Things
Being someone people can depend on in tough situations is not an easy task for the weak.
Senior Maya Nakar has always seemed to be a natural-born leader and has never let anyone stop that and put out her flame.
“I have always been the friend that has been looking after each other and sometimes it comes off as bossy to the point where my old coach had to bench me for it,” Nakar said.
Although Maya has good relationships with her friends she has not had the best track record with dates.
“I once went on a date with a guy and he threw up and still complained that he had to pay, I gave him a second chance and he did it again,” Nakar states.
Being held to high expectations is also a part of Maya’s daily life and she’s never shied away for an opportunity to show it.
“ I am a first-generation Israeli-American, born in Manhattan. My family still celebrates versions of the holidays and we visit Israel every year,” Nakar says.
With her being from a place that gets a lot of attention she finds ways to correct the people that are incorrect.
“I always find people hating my country for what they see in the news which is a hard thing to hear. I often find something they are wrong about and I try my best to correct them or educate them more on the situation since I know it is not a good place to live either,” Nakar exclaimed.
With all of these things, she still finds ways to be a fighter and a person people can depend on.
“I have always been a sort of mom to the friends in my groups and making sure I have everything and everyone,” Nakar says.
Although yearbook was not always in the skies for Maya she needed something to fill the void of a passion she lost.
“After I quit volleyball in eighth grade I needed something to fill the void. I joined yearbook thinking it would help and I fell in love with it,” Naar states.
