The Mind of Yearbook
Meredith Ziegler is an upcoming senior at Southport High School in Indianapolis, IN.
For Meredith Ziegler, Yearbook had always been a creative outlet since she joined. “I had a friend who did it and highly suggested that I take part in it and I also wanted to do something in the arts that wasn’t really artsy,” Ziegler stated. Now three years later, Ziegler is Design Editor for her school’s book for the past two years.
While Yearbook is something she has been interested in, she has an interest in psychology. “I want to go to Marion College and I’m going to be in the counseling department and then I’m probably going to graduate with a degree in psychology and counseling. I had a great therapist and so then that made me want to become a therapist and help people,” Ziegler said. To prepare, Ziegler has taken multiple science courses relating to how the brain works including taking AP Psychology this coming year.
With a hand in both, she has noticed a few correlations between psychology and the designing of the book. “How people act and like if there’s a photo of them or something, they’ll put themselves in it or not in it or with they’re friends and things like that. Also the habits of people and how people talk and act about it. They’re either ashamed to be in it or they’re really okay with it,” Ziegler continued to say. Ziegler hopes to continue to learn more about psychology and notice correlations between Yearbook and it.
