Throughout high school, rising Senior Katherine Jackson has moments of trial and error, to help her succeed, not just in the classroom
Upcoming Senior Katherine Jackson, who goes to Martinsville High School in Indiana, the future was the highlighted topic, ranging from publications, teachers, and her struggles and her successes. Publications, having an idea about what she wants, her struggles and her math teachers have pushed her to be the best that she can be and to help her shape her future.
When asked about what Katherine saw in her future Jackson explains, “Marketing at Notre Dame, is [her] dream.” Then she goes on to explain that publications and photography pushed her into wanting to show a story versus telling it, which led her to the marketing landscape.
Jackson chose to go the route of the academic honors diploma as “all of [her] classes that [she] had taken previously lined up well, and it sets [her] ahead.” Jackson had the idea of where she wanted to go and how to get there but it wasn’t without some extra learning with things like personality and time management.
“Mr. Urban and Mr. Nuckles, both very good math teachers, had two very different personalities and teaching styles. Nuckles was my stats teacher who was more personable and empathetic to us. While Urban, who was my pre-calc teacher, seemed to come off colder than Nuckles.”
Jackson then speaks on how she was able to learn from both teachers and that they were two people that really pushed her through math and even school. At school, Katherine was involved in marching band and tennis.
Being able to learn from many points of view allowed Katherine Jackson to not only learn but to also grow into the young student that she is now. But also, not only as a student but also as an athlete.
She started her freshman year, 2020, with marching band, then began playing tennis that year. “I had way too many really late nights,” Jackson continues, “I knew if I kept doing that, I wouldn’t make it till the next season.”
As a freshman, Katherine struggled with the execution of time management, which is what caused her to struggle during those times of the school year. As she moved up the high school social chain, her schedule became fuller, but her time management skills became very well-tuned.
Katherine learned from her struggles, mistakes, and even failures to then succeed in so much more than she thought. From learning differently to learning how to manage her time between extracurriculars, she was successful.
