Drowning In Schoolwork
Bethany Brown discovers new ways to manage stress through swim team and music.
Bethany Brown. A 16 year old at Avon High school in Avon, Indiana is taking three AP classes, an extra credit college course class, and is one of five section editors for her school’s yearbook. “I really wanted to push myself for my junior year. I don’t think I’ve really processed the amount of work I am going to have this year, but I feel confident that I will be able to push through it and make the most of my junior year.” said Brown.
With high school comes freedom, friends, and stress. One learns a lot about oneself during their high school years and learns a lot about what kind of workload they can handle and how to manage their own stress. Each person finds their own way to work through their stress to make sure they are getting their work done on time.
Brown finds managing stress comes easy when listening to her favorite artists; Taylor Swift, Harry Styles, and Doja Cat, “Music is an escape from reality, when the songs are relatable, it makes me realize I’m not the only one going through something and helps me work through whatever it is I am going through at the time.”
Brown has been swimming for 8 years and has also used it as an escape from reality and from her stress, “At meets, I’m solely focused on my swimming and what I’m doing and how to get better.” Brown has a lot to manage this year but feels confident she will be able to do so through her, “ … determination to get better and make my younger self happy by accomplishing my goals.” photo by greta powell
