Following the Footsteps
Drew Nesbit joins her school’s yearbook team after her older sister leads by example
Everyone always has someone to look up to. Someone that is an influencer or is just an important person in their life. For Drew Nesbit, a 17-year-old student from Martinsville Indiana, that person is her older sister. Her sister Piper has always been a role model. When Piper was in high school, she joined the yearbook staff, which encouraged Drew to also join the yearbook team.
For Drew, her older sister has always been an inspiration.
“She was class president, and she was just all these good things,” Drew said. “And that’s who I want to be.”
Piper was also an editor on the school’s yearbook staff. And following in her sister’s footsteps, Drew joined yearbook and became and editor.
“…she would always tell me the stories about how it was always just so fun and how the teacher was so great,” Drew said.
When Drew came to the HSJI camp last summer, she wasn’t alone.
“Last year, she was the assistant for the yearbook class,” Drew said. “She really guided me through that when it felt like I had no one in the class, she was still there, and I knew she will help me get me through this.”
Piper was able to lead Drew and help her when she needed it. This was all the more reason why Drew wanted to be more like her big sister.
Piper has been a model for Drew. Throughout high school, Drew has been able to follow in her sister’s footsteps and become more like her inspiration every day.
“The relationship is based on my admiration for her…we love each other but we don’t always show it,” said Drew.
