New Beginnings, New Obstacle

Walking into a new show choir group, Juhee Tyagi finds it nerve-racking to sing alongside boys for the first time.
Senior Juhee Tyagi’s class was the first to experience the new show choir group.
“At first, I felt very intimidated by the idea of having a mixed show choir group of both girls and boys. I was used to a sisterhood relationship from my previous show choir group, Allegro. Allegro provided me with multiple opportunities with supportive friends and healthy competition,” Tyagi said.
Getting more comfortable with the show choir group, Juhee experienced a different bond than before.
“In this new group, New Edition, I gained relationships with people that reminded me of a family bond between all of the girls and boys. Despite the fact that I gained so much from Allegro, New Edition taught me how to connect with other people, especially boys,” Tyagi said.
There were many highs of this new choir group, but since it was a mixed group, it came with many flaws.
“After I started getting used to this new type of show choir group, things started to change. Drama started playing a role throughout our entire group for the remainder of the year. People were betraying their friends, and involving drama outside of the show choir group into the group. After a while, it became frustrating, and I almost left the group and nearly lost my love for show choir completely,” Tyagi said.
